Curating & Collecting

Collections are living creatures that existed before us and continue after us.

What does it mean to curate and collect, to create and maintain library collections?

Curating & Collecting contains twelve hand-crafted miniatures, representing tools used to create, share or playback the materials that libraries house. Below this miniature collection, listeners can tune into different curators as they make their mark on library collections.

Note: In person, visitors can play short audio compositions by plugging cables into the tree rings on the object. The compositions are short snippets mixed against a continuous background track of forest sounds, inviting visitors to contemplate what it means to collect and curate a growing forest of library collections. Online the audio plays as one continuous track with the same background.
