Cataloging & Classifying

What does it mean to classify and describe library collections?

Cataloging & Classifying resembles a card catalog. Inside its two drawers, viewers can see examples of this early classification cards interspersed with contemporary photos of the many tools librarians continue to use today as they physically catalog, classify, and prepare books to reach the hands of readers.

Open the drawers to tune into the world of cataloging through two different sound compositions: “Sounding the Radical Catalog” or “The Joy of Cataloging.”
